Seminar peran media menghadapi pemilu 2024 digelar Panitia Hari Pers Nasional (HPN) Persatuan Wartawan Indonesia (PWI) Kabupaten Langkat, Sabtu (25/2/2023).
Giat ini dibuka Plt Bupati Langkat, H Syah Afandin SH melalui Asisten I Ekbang, H Sukhyar Mulyamin SSos MSi, di Hotel Rindu Alam Hotel Bukit Lawang, Kecamatan Bahorok, Kabupaten Langkat.
Hadir Ketua PWI Langkat M Darwis Sinulingga, Ketua HPN PWI Langkat Dony Syahputra, Sekretaris Budi Zulkifli, Bendahara Endang Juliadi, pengurus dan anggota PWI Langkat berserta keluarga.
Sebagai narasumber Ketua PWI Sumut H Farianda Putra Sinik, Ketua KPU Langkat Sopian Sitepu, dan Ketua Bawaslu Langkat Husni Laili.
Asisten I mengapresiasi seminar yang digelar PWI Langkat. Dirinya mengajak media untuk memberikan pemahaman terkait pemilu kepada masyarakat, agar nilai demokrasi yang adil dapat ditegakan.
“Peran media sangat penting dalam mensosialisasikan segala bentuk kebijakan pemilu yang harus diketahui masyarakat.
Media juga dapat membuka pola pikir masyarakat untuk menentukan pilihannya dan meminimalisir Golput,” urainya.
Ketua PWI Sumut mengatakan media dapat menjadi salah satu barometer, ketika masyarakat ingin menentukan pilihannya kepada calon pemimpin di pemilu, baik di legislatif maupun eksekutif.
Juga berperan menyuarakan sosialisasi dari program KPU untuk meminimalisir Golput kepada masyarakat agar menggunakan hak pilihnya.
“Media pemberitaan memiliki peran untuk meningkatkan minat masyarakat menggunakan hak suaranya,” sebutnya.
Ia juga berpesan agar media tidak berkampanye dengan mendukung satu partai politik. Media hanya menjalankan sosial kontrol, yang tujuannya meminimalisir terjadinya kecurangan.
Media tidak memanas-manaskan suasana, harus mendinginkan atau menurunkan suhu suasana pada Pemilu agar tetap kondusif.
“Media harus netral,” tegasnya.
Ketua KPU Langkat mengatakan peran media sangat dibutuhkan untuk menyampaikan informasi positif terhadap semua lapisan masyarakat, melalui pemberitaan. Peran Media juga bisa menghempang berita-berita hoax yang kemungkinan banyak dilansir media sosial.
Selain itu, Media diharapkan mampu menciptakan ruang yang memungkinkan masyarakat mendiskusikan wacana publik seperti pemilu dari berbagai sisi, baik penyelenggara maupun peserta pemilu, ini dikatakan memperkuat interaksi publik.
Menurutnya, media terbukti mampu mengorganisir publik untuk terlibat pada suatu aktivitas politik.
Di pemilu 2024, media harus mendorong keterlibatan aktif masyarakat, baik untuk menjadi bagian dari penyelenggara pemilu, peserta pemilu, atau bahkan meyakinkan masyarakat untuk menggunakan hak politiknya, ini dikatakan mobilisasi media.
“Media mampu mempengaruhi publik,” ucapnya.
Ketua Bawaslu Langkat mengatakan media menjadi referensi bagi masyarakat dalam membuat keputusan.
Media miliki kekuatan melakukan ‘agenda setting’ sehingga dapat mempengaruhi trush publik. Media juga sebagai ‘the monitor of power’.
Jadi, sebutnya, media dapat mengajak publik mengawasi jalannya tahapan pemilu dan mendapatkan apa yang menjadi potensi pelanggaran dalam tahapan pemilu yang berlangsung.
“Karena, kata Bill Kovach, jurnalisme dan demokrasi tumbuh bersama-sama,” sebutnya.
Terkahir Ketua PWI Langkat dan Ketua HPN PWI Langkat mengucapkan ribuan terimakasih kasih kepada Plt Bupati Langkat serta semua pihak yang mendukung kesuksesan seminar ini juga rangkaian kegiatan HPN lainnya.
Turut dilakukan penyerahan ribuan bibit ikan oleh Panitia HPN PWI Langkat kepada penggiat pencinta alam Bukit Lawang.
Lucky draw juga memeriahkan acara seminar dengan hadiah utama springbed, kulkas dan TV juga puluhan hadiah hiburan.(yan)
